By now I guess you have all heard that our beloved Miss Nell Jennings Schad recently passed away.

Somehow I found that news some of the most sobering of any LH news.  Long ago I came to grips with and accepted our own mortaiity as our ranks continually dwindled, but I guess I somehow kept my memories of Miss Jennings in a secret and safe place where they would forever remain unchanged.  All things change and regretfully this did too.  The Nell Jennings Memorial Scholarship Fund.

I encourage you to take a moment and click on "Dearly Departed Classmates"and remember.

Lake Highlands Oldtimers

Sharon Smith-- When did you move to Lake Highlands?  I know we were in third grade together. We were in the new section from these guys.  We lived on Lanshire west of Ferndale and I had to ride my bike up the hill to join the rest of the gang and attend Cub Scout meetings at Keathley's house.   Was Steve Braun's Mother the other Den Leader?  Northminster Presbyterian Church started in house just east of Ferndale on Lanshire.

Steve Phillips

Donna Snyder's family was the first in Lake Highlands followed by mine.  We lived on Lockhaven before it was paved.  It ran behind the old shopping center where Curry's drugstore was and was the first street in the "new" area called Lake Highlands.  If there were other streets at that time I don't know where they would have been.

Frank Keathley

I would love to be a part of that historical committee and volunteer one of the pioneer Mothers – my Mother Jo Laurini – she has some good stories and remembers more than me.  Our house was the third house built in Lake Highlands 10306 Linkwood Drive.  We had no phones only a phone booth on the corner of Lanshire and Lockhaven –   – I remember our phone number after we finally got phones Diamond-8-2257 or Di-8-2257.  We lived there until 1973 or 4.  We have kept in touch with some of the original owners of homes on our street.  The builder lived in the first house built in Lake Highlands. Kirby Albright was his name.  He went on in the real estate world to develop around Chandler’s Landing in Rockwall. Please let me know if there are meetings coming up.

Thanks,

Sandy Laurini Burdine

In response to my recent request for input from classmates for this website I just received an interesting

story from Keith Garrison (class of '64) about his first days at LHHS.  Like Keith, I too came to LHHS my

Junior year and encountered some of the same fears that he did.  Click here for Keith's story and some

day I'll tell you mine.  Anyone else?

"David's Wayback Machine" has a new addition.  I hadn't thought of the Volume 5 memory in years and

don't know what made me think of it now, but it was fun.

Send me your memory in any format you want.  I'll put it online.
