NELL JENNINGS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

In 1991, a group of Lake Highlands High School graduates from the Class of 1966 established the LHHS Scholarship Club.  The Club was established and operates as a tax-exempt non-profit organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  The Club's sole purpose is to provide scholarships to LHHS graduating seniors who require financial assistance in order to pursue an associate or bachelors degree at an accredited college or university.

Scholarship recipients are chosen from applicants who are considered based on academic ability, teacher recommendations, community involvement and financial need.  Recipients must maintain a 2.5 GPA.  Compliance with this standard is confirmed through submission of grade reports to the Club.  Scholarship payments are made directly to the institution in which the student is enrolled.

We made a decision, as of January 14, 2008, to honor Nell Jennings with the Nell Jennings' Memorial Scholarship.  Needless to say, she was an all-time favorite.

The Club also maintains the Coach Bill Georges Memorial Scholarship in honor of Lake Highland's first head football coach.  This scholarship is provided to a male or female athlete in need of college financial assistance.

Over the years, the Club has provided financial assistance (in excess of $100,000) to LHHS graduates attending Baylor University, Drake University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Northwestern Louisiana State University, Richland College, Southwest Texas State University, Tarleton State University, Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, Texas Women's University, University of North Texas, University of Oklahoma, University of Texas at Austin, Midwestern State University, Southern University and University of Texas at Dallas.

Scholarships provided by the Club make a difference in the lives of LHHS graduates by helping make college education a reality.  Funding for the Club is provided exclusively through donor contributions.  Club volunteers pay all operating expenses; therefore, 100% of all donor contributions are used for scholarships.

We hope you will become a Club member by making an initial contribution as well as annual contributions in the future.  Any size contribution will be helpful.
