BORN TO RUN

Does anyone remember the sunny afternoon in 1964 - just as school was letting out - the air was filled with the fast-approaching wail of sirens?  As the sirens got closer we could see a pale blue Oldsmobile Starfire racing down Ferndale (from the direction of Wallace Elem.) and turned left on Kingsley (Now Walnut Hill Lane) with two police cars in hot pursuit.

With tires screaming,  the Starfire sped past Lake Highlands High School and driver Mike Lockett smiled and waved to onlookers.

Since Mike and I were friends I'm sure that I once knew all the details.  But too much time has passed.  Now I can only remember that it was one of the coolest things that I had ever seen.
